At First Class Kids, every child is welcomed, valued, and supported as an individual. We know that children develop at their own pace and some may need a little extra help along the way. Our aim is to work together with families to make sure every child feels happy, confident, and included.

What SEN Support Looks Like at Our Nursery

Noticing and Understanding Your Child’s Needs - Our caring team spends lots of time getting to know each child. If we notice they might benefit from some extra support, we will always chat with you first so we can understand your child’s needs together.

Personalised Support - If additional help is needed, we put together simple, child-friendly strategies to support their learning. These plans are completely tailored to your child and focus on what helps them feel comfortable and successful.

Our Friendly SENCo - Shelley is our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) who makes sure everything is in place should children need a little extra support in their learning and development. She guides our team, keeps in touch with families, and can help link you with other professionals if needed.

Working Together With You - You know your child best. We listen carefully to your views, keep you updated, and make sure you’re involved in every decision. We believe working in partnership helps children make the best progress.

Support From Other Professionals - If your child would benefit from specialist help, such as speech and language support, we can work alongside these professionals so your child gets consistent, joined-up care.

A Warm and Inclusive Environment - We adapt activities and routines to ensure every child can join in and enjoy their time with us. Our setting is designed to be welcoming, accessible, and full of opportunities for children to explore and grow.

Our Promise to Families

We are here to celebrate your child’s strengths, support their challenges, and make their nursery experience positive and meaningful. No matter what your child needs, we’re here to help them shine.

The Graduated Approach at First Class Kids

The Graduated Approach is a four-step cycle of assessing, planning, doing and reviewing. It helps us understand your child’s needs, plan personalised support, and regularly check that the support is working. This approach is central to the SEND Code of Practice and ensures early, effective interventionThe Graduated Approach ensures every child gets the consistent, thoughtful support they deserve.

Assess - We start by observing your child and gathering information about their strengths, interests, and any areas where they may need help. We also speak with you because your insights are essential. Together we build a clear picture of what your child needs to thrive.

Plan - If we identify additional support, then we work with you to create a support plan. This might include:

  • small, targeted activities

  • visual prompts or structured routines

  • language or communication support

  • emotional and social development strategies

  • adapting the environment to help your child feel secure

You will always be involved in planning, and you’ll know exactly what we are doing and why.

Do - Our team, including the nursery SENCo, put the plan into action through everyday play, routines, and interactions. Support is woven naturally into your child’s day so that it feels comfortable and positive. This may include 1:1 interactions, small-group work, or simply subtle adjustments that help your child succeed.

Review - We regularly check how things are going and we look at what’s working, what needs adjusting, and how your child is progressing. We meet with you to talk through the review and agree on next steps. If needed, we can involve external professionals to maximise the knowledge and intervention to see your child thrive.
